Actual text conversations

(with my bestie)

L:  I'm at Walmart.  God help me.  Do you need anything?

Me:  Snag me a 20 pound sack of 50s, but only if they are on sale.

L:  Oh I checked on those first.  Fresh out.

Me:  Dang senior citizens getting there early and buying all the good stuff.

L:  Right? Assholes.

~~

Me:  I just broke the handle on the stove while baking chocolate chip cookie dough muffins.

L:  Awesome!  Bring me one!

~~

(L is having surgery next month.  This convo occurred after she had been in the back for a half hour while we were in Mobile seeing the gyno specialist for her pre op consultation.)

L:  Still waiting for the exam.

Me:  Ok sis.  No rush. Just kick back, throw your legs in the air, and let the doc all up in your business like you just don't care.

L:  Heeey!  Hoooo!

~~
(at 7 am on a Saturday)

Me:  You up and at em and BURSTING WITH EXCITEMENT TO HIT THE TRACK YESYESWHEEEE!?

L:  (20 minute silence)

Me:  Is this a passive aggressive attempt to manipulate me into believing that you are still asleep?

L:  No, but maybe if I ignore it long enough it will go away...

~~

(referring to the too loose fit of her oldest son's jeans)

L:  He had Dookie britches.

Me:  Please don't ever say that word to me again.

L:  DOOKIEDOOKIEDOOKIE!

~~

(The day after K's birthday celebration which included jello shots and Alan, who showed up way late to the party)

Me: I've been fantasizing all morning about kicking vodka in the face.

L:  Kick Alan.  He's evil.

~~

So is she, hilariously so.

Fodee TEW, y'all!

I haven't had a whole lot of time for birthday bells and whistles this year, and I can only imagine the angst and pain my lack of posting about my birthday every.single.day.in April/Juli has caused you.  I'm sorry 'bout that.

A Bead Soup one hit wonder~

Sherry sent me some
beautiful beads with which to play.

(and some perfectly stitched Sunshine earrings)
(and no, you can't have them!)

But...um...
The soup colors?
 A major challenge for me.

I've only gotten one necklace/earring set made so far,
and I'm about to tell you why.

I spent a whole lot of time staring at the beads

and then I spent a whole lot more time
digging through my seed beads
to find some additional shades
for the shading the crazy lace
cab called for

before finally deciding
I don't even own the right shades.
And that my friends,
is saying something.

So I did my best in spite of myself.

And the second person who saw it
bought it.

I *love* that people are so different.

And so awesome.

~~

(I'm not even a rule breaker this time.)
(I used the clasp!)

As always, many heartfelt thanks to
the magnificent Lori Anderson McDaniel
for hosting another Bead Soup Extravaganza.
You're a peach!

I can't wait to see what Sherry Stokey
made with the soup I sent.
Let's go take a peek,
K?

And if you want to take a creatively
awesome journey with me,
you will find the complete list
of all participants in
round 2
HERE.

Well played, Lillie Beth.

Chelsea and I go outside first thing in the morning,
and I'm wont to begin each by looking up.
This pecan tree has become a touchstone
of sorts, its growth measuring
the spending of my days.

Standing still beneath
I listen as it
comes to life.

Such a stark contrast
between
blue skies and rain.

Well played, God.

My Nana was a charter member of the National Home Gardening Club.

I never knew that.

I've never seen her flowers as less than the whole,
never noticed the individuality or amazing variety
or intentionally orchestrated placement.

Until now.

Serenity Stones

It seems life is happening to so many people.  I've spent a good deal of time this week listening, trying to find words to comfort, sitting at the torch thinking of the people I care about that are facing trials.  I found myself inspired to create a style of bead I haven't made in 10 years, since the war in Iraq started and I, along with every military spouse, was suddenly thrust into the midst of worry, fear and loneliness....and ultimately my own personal coming to Jesus.

I made the first of these stones for myself.  A small something to carry in my pocket to serve as a touchstone of faith, a reminder to live in the positive and focus on the moment.  Some time ago I gave that stone away, having encountered someone in an airport more in need of it than I was.

This week I made more.  Some to give to friends, one to keep for myself, and a few more to share.  Maybe you know someone in need of uplifting.  Maybe that someone is you.

Whatever the case, know that love and prayer went into each~ that they find their way to someone who needs them and that they serve as a comforting presence.

Today's smile brought to you by happy Parrot faces.

One day soon I'll have time to say things here again.  I'll even use my words and errthang.  Right now I'm playing Keep the Jeep in the driveway, a game I do not highly recommend.  One day soon I'm going to win though, because that's what stubborn faith does.

I am dying to put my toes in sand (more than usual), and since I can't get to the beach just yet I brought the tropics to me.  And you, if you're in need something cheerful and bright.
